Camden has been manufacturing and supplying PVCu products to customers across the UK and Ireland since 1983. Operating across 40 acres of manufacturing facilities in Antrim, Camden has the ability to produce up to 10,000 frames per week for distribution through a number of trade centres across the United Kingdom.
Camden Group has been a member of the Industrial Symbiosis service since 2007.
Camden holds quality and innovation at the core of its business and is also committed to sustaining the environment. This is achieved by ensuring that all scrap PVCu material generated on their sites is recycled at their state-of-the-art facility in Antrim. This facility has the capacity to reduce the amount of waste material going to landfill by up to 100 tonnes per week. This material is granulated and extruded to create new sustainable products.
Camden contacted the Industrial Symbiosis service for help to identify organisations capable of generating regular supplies of post-industrial and post-consumer window profile and frames. The company could incorporate this resource into their new products to satisfy enquiries from customers about the recycled content.
The Industrial Symbiosis team was aware of businesses looking for solutions for post-industrial and post-consumer PVCu window profile that diverted materials from landfill. The Industrial Symbiosis practitioner introduced Camden to several companies that were generating or collecting window frames and offcuts and who could supply this material on a regular basis.
The production of plastic requires significant quantities of oil, a rapidly depleting natural resource that is expensive to extract. Camden recognised the importance of incorporating recycled plastics into their products as being cost effective and sustainable. The company’s latest product “Inliten” features up to 80% recycled content.
The synergies delivered by the Industrial Symbiosis Service have diverted over 100tonnes of material from landfill and generated significant cost savings and additional sales for all the companies involved. Camden has upgraded it’s facilities so that they can now take post-consumer window frames which contain mixed metals and plastics. The plastics are reprocessed and the metal is recovered and sold.
“Camden is committed to the sustainable processing of its products and will continue to engage with the Industrial Symbiosis Service to identify sources of material.”
