£5 Million in potential cost savings identified at Resource Matching Workshop

Last week 23 companies from the Derry and Strabane District Council area attended our Resource Matching Workshop at Seagate Technology. After some early morning networking and introductions, the event got underway with a brief presentation on how Industrial Symbioses works. Practitioners brought along examples of current resources that need a solution and got ideas flowing in terms of what wasted resources the delegates might have to offer.

The workshop got underway with facilitators coordinating the tables of businesses. After several rounds of discussions and resource matching, 120 potential synergies were identified. Even more impressive was the statistic that a £5m in cost savings could be achieved if these matches come to fruition. Staggering numbers for even a small number of businesses. From an environmental perspective 33,350 tonnes could be diverted from landfill if these businesses start working together.

The event finished with a short tour of Seagate Technology and their operations. Delegates got an insight into their impressive facilities and information on their successful work with the Industrial Symbiosis Service.

We run resource matching workshops regularly throughout the year and the next is scheduled for September in the Mid and East Antrim area. You can find out more information and register your interest here
